Hard cheddar: Cheese sales slump by £60million in past year

In percentage terms, this was the biggest loss of the year, but the category’s top-selling brand Cathedral City suffered a £15.9 million loss.

Like Anchor, it did not escape the rationalisation unscathed having seen its number of products in Sainsbury’s significantly reduced in March. 

But the report says that strong sales in sub categories such as mini portions, Continental and blue cheese are propping up the market.
