Scots councisl face MORE savage council cuts: Watchdog warns of £550m financial black hole

Local authority spending stood at £19.5billion last year, with increases on “key services” such as social care “because of rising demand from an ageing population”. 

Kevin Keenan, finance spokesman for umbrella body Cosla, said: “There is no doubt that, despite difficult settlements from the Scottish Government, councils have managed their finances well but significant challenges lie ahead in maintaining this.” 

Scottish Tory local government spokesman Graham Simpson urged ministers to “come clean” on future cuts.
