BBC Weather: Storm Dennis to dump month’s rain in 24 hours – terrifying UK travel warning

Taylor added: “There is a lot of rain around on Saturday but around the western coast and hills, the rain will be relentless all day long.

“Winds will start to strengthen from Saturday afternoon and will continue into Saturday night. The rainfall totals will continue to top up as well, so risking more floods.

“Scotland and Northern Ireland will see the worst of the winds on Sunday night, up to 75mph or 80mph, causing travel disruption.”

Sky weather presenter Kirsty McCabe added: “Frequent show showers and strong winds could lead to blizzard conditions over the hills.

“Any snow accumulations over lower ground will be temporary but up to 10cm is possible over the hills.”

Taylor also warned that the chaotic weather could also see Storm Ellen hit the country next week.
