Brexit latest: Michael Gove offered Brexit Secretary as Raab quits in protest over EU deal

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Raab’s no fool, and his resignation puts him in pole position to swoop in as the next Tory leader, as and when May departs.”

Shortly afterwards, his undersecretary Suella Braverman resigned from the role immediately after her former boss.

Mrs Braverman was Mr Raab’s aide and also worked for David Davis before Mr Raab took over as predecessor. Esther McVey announced she was resigning as Work and Pensions Secretary as she could not defend a deal which meant the UK “handing over control to the EU”.
