China Sea clash: US and Japan join forces in tense territorial row with China

Japan claims China has only raised objections to this since the discovery of oil in the region, the BBC reports.

China, however, says the islands had historically been part of China’s territory.

Mr Schneider said: “Beijing through the PLA continues to take aggressive and malign actions in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

“In the South China Sea, they continue to bully partners, neighbours and others who have legitimate claims to territories, islands and features.”
