Coronavirus warning: Residents get NHS text message tells them to AVOID GP

The text reads: “If you have symptoms of a cough, fever or shortness of breath and have recently returned from a South East Asian country, do not come to the surgery, instead call NHS 111.”

The message, which comes from the sender “NHS no reply”, has added to a tense atmosphere in the south coast city.

Professor Samer Bagaeen, who is on the city council’s health board, accused the NHS of not revealing enough information about the spread of the virus. He said: “They have intentionally hidden the implications of the infections.

“Nobody is stepping into a leadership role and everyone is passing the buck.”
