Speaking to BBC Newsnight, Mr Curtis explained: “Many of the public I’m sure would support wearing masks.
“The fact is that at this stage, most of them aren’t doing so.
“In our most recent poll, 36 percent of the British public said they were regularly wearing masks when they were in public places.
“When we compare that to the research we’ve done in other parts of the world, it’s a fraction of what we’re seeing in the US.
“It’s a fraction of what we’re seeing in comparable European countries like France, Italy and Spain.”
