The young Brexiteer explained how his grandfather, a former miner and lifelong trade unionist, voted Conservative for the first time because of the party’s 2017 manifesto to Brexit.
He explained: “My grandad in 2017 pulled me to one said and said ‘Darren, I’ve got something to tell you. I’m going to vote for her, I’m going to vote for Theresa.’
“I honestly nearly fell down backwards because this is a man who served in Korea, was surrounded by Labour all his life, was down the pit and a trade unionist.
“He’d been soaked in trade unionism and the labour movement all his life.
“For this man to turn around, because of Brexit and back the Tories shows the chasm it has caused in British politics.”
