Among his interests, he listed “squash, reading, swimming and cinema”.
Mr Bercow was applying to be a special adviser to the Chief Secretary of the Treasury in 1995 at the request of Ken Clarke, who was Chancellor at the time.
He had served on Lambeth Council from 1986 to 1990 and went on to be elected as the MP for Buckingham in 1997 before beginning a decade as Speaker in 2009.
Earlier this year, Express.co.uk unearthed Mr Bercow’s 1997 election leaflet, which hit out against the “rotten” EU.
