Queen portrait returned to rightful place in Northern Ireland Office–’Deeply embarrassing’

The leader of the Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) Jim Allister argued the portrait should have never been taken down in the first place, but praised Mr Smith’s decision, saying: “I would like to thank the Secretary of State Julian Smith for expediting the return of the portrait to its rightful place.”

Similarly, Lord Rogan asked why the painting had to be taken down in the first place, saying: “I welcome reports that the Queen’s portrait has been restored to its proper place in Stormont House.

“I am glad that some common sense has been applied.

“If, as it appears, this was due to the influence of Secretary of State Julian Smith, fair play to him.
