US Democrats and Republicans disagree over £201 billion coronavirus aid

Most lawmakers are not in Washington and the regular business of the Senate and House is suspended until April 20, although it could be extended.

Although unlikely, if the Senate passes a bill on Thursday, Nancy Pelosi would have to get her 429-member chamber to agree with a unanimous “voice vote” for the Senate action.

Otherwise, she would have to summon lawmakers to Washington to assemble a majority of the House for authorisation.

Pelosi has told House Democrats that $1 trillion in that additional federal aid was necessary.

Pelosi and Schumer said half of the £201 billion ($250 billion) in small-business help must be assigned to community services for farmers and nonprofit organisations as well as minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses.
