Unbeaten England and Pakistan ‘look a class above’ their T20 World Cup rivals, according to Michael Vaughan.

England, champions in 2010 and runners-up in 2016, have enjoyed a perfect start to their T20 World Cup campaign, thrashing West Indies by six wickets and Bangladesh by eight wickets.

Pakistan have also impressed, securing their first World Cup victory over arch-rivals India and then beating New Zealand to go top of Group 2 and on the verge of the semi-finals.

‘England and Pakistan so far look a class above the rest in this T20 World Cup,’ Vaughan tweeted. ‘Early days but they will be both take some stopping.’

Carlos Brathwaite, who won the T20 World Cup with West Indies five years ago, also sees England and Pakistan as the two ‘favourites’.

He told BBC Test Match Special: ‘The groups are now starting to take shape. You can see teams which are finding their own way to play.

‘It seems England in this group, and Pakistan in the other group, are the two favourites.’

After bowling West Indies out for 55 in their T20 World Cup opener, England produced another impressive bowling performance against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Tymal Mills took 3-27, Moeen Ali claimed 2-18 and part-time spinner Liam Livingstone’s 2-15 restricted Bangladesh, who also lost their first game, to 124-9.

Jason Roy then smashed 61 and Dawid Malan made 28 not out as England cruised to victory with eight wickets and 35 balls remaining.

‘That was a very special match for us,’ said Roy after being named Player of the Match in his 50th T20 international.

‘We had to back up our last performance against West Indies and we had to come out firing. A lot of credit goes to our bowlers.’

England captain Eoin Morgan, meanwhile, praised Roy and his bowling attack after Bangladesh were humbled in Abu Dhabi.

‘The way Jason plays is very imposing and when you play like that, it makes it very difficult to bowl to set fields and it’s great to see him in good touch,’ Morgan said.

‘The bowlers have started the tournament really well. I think they’ve adapted to conditions again today and they were very disciplined – backed up in the field with good catching and ground fielding.’
