Dimitar Berbatov urges Harry Kane to think long and hard over potential Man Utd move

Harry Kane is being heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, with Manchester United potential suitors for the striker, but a man who made that same switch himself has urged the England captain to think long and hard about his future.

Dimitar Berbatov moved from Spurs to the Red Devils for £30.75m in 2008 and went on to enjoy a successful four-year stint at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League title twice.

Kane is yet to win a trophy of any sort in his career so far and it is this lack of silverware that could facilitate a move away from the white half of north London in the near future.

Spurs are desperate to keep hold of their talisman and his future lies in his own hands, with Berbatov urging him to consider what is best for him.

The Bulgarian made a slightly cryptic statement about how he considered his own move from north London to Manchester to have gone.

‘If you’re at a club where you haven’t won anything then you have to decide whether the most important thing is to help them succeed,’ Berbatov told the Sun.

‘Or you have to decide to go somewhere you are more likely to win medals.

‘For Kane it’s very difficult because he’s a Spurs fan. There’s speculation that Kane might benefit from a change of club.

‘As somebody who made a big move, I can tell that only the player knows what his priorities are.’

Berbatov has certainly been impressed by Manchester United’s recent upturn in form, which he credits manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for, but also the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in 11 matches, nine of which have come since the arrival of the Portuguese midfielder and their former striker believes Solskjaer’s plan is coming together nicely.

‘Ole is benefiting from being given time to experiment and develop young players and the club are starting to reap the rewards,’ continued the 39-year-old.

‘They are on a great run. I’ve talked about the impact of Fernandes but United have kept nine clean sheets in their 11-game unbeaten run.

‘They’re defending well. [Harry] Maguire has really risen to the responsibility since he was made club captain.

‘I expect Fernandes to do well but I’ve been really impressed by how quickly he’s integrated into the team.

‘His teammates are looking for him with the ball because they know he can create magic. The signs are very promising for United with him in the side.’
