Euro 2020: How many matches will there be?

Euro 2020 is almost upon us as football fans prepare for a month of competitive football to see if their country really can bring the trophy home.

This year’s delayed Euro 2020 tournament kicks off on Friday, June 11 in Rome and runs until July 11 with the final taking place at Wembley.

For the first time in the tournament’s history, the competition will be staged in multiple venues across the continent with 11 host cities welcoming fans.

The Euro 2020 Fantasy Football competition is already underway and it’s time to start getting those wall charts up in your homes if you’re a hardcore fan.

But how many matches will you have to fill in this summer?

How many matches in total at Euro 2020?

In total there will be 51 matches played across the Euro 2020 tournament.

Each of the 24 countries competing will play a minimum of three matches – the group stages.

The winners and runners-up of each group will reach the knockout stages, as well as the four best third-placed teams.

Successful teams in the knockout stages will play in the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-final and final.

The two teams who reach the final will have played seven matches in total.

Gareth Southgate’s England begin their campaign against Croatia on Sunday, June 13 (2pm BST) at Wembley.

Scotland, who are in the same group as the Three Lions, play their first match against Czech Republic a day later at 2pm.

Wales will be the first home nation to kick off their quest for glory when they face Switzerland on Saturday, June 12 (2pm) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
