Harry Kane scored twice in Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw with Everton but was forced off in the dying stages of the game, in worrying scenes for Spurs fans.

Kane put Jose Mourinho’s side in front after 27 minutes, with Gylfi Sigurdsson equalising minutes later from the penalty spot.

A cool cushioned left-footed finish from Sigurdsson put the hosts in front just after the hour mark but Kane lashed home six minutes later to secure a point for Spurs.

But disaster struck in the latter stages of the match as he appeared to suffer an ankle injury.

With the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City in nine days’ time, it’s a major concern for anyone associated with Spurs.

But Mourinho says he has to be ‘optimistic’ over his condition.

‘It is too early to say something,’ Mourinho told Sky Sports at full-time.

‘For him to leave the pitch with a few minutes to go is obviously because he felt something. Let me be optimistic and believe that he has time to recover. Let’s see.

“Let me be optimistic and believe it’s nothing serious. It’s obvious he’s a very important player for us. I cannot say much or speculate.

“Both [Kane’s goals] were from crosses but it was great finishing. It’s the kind of player that when you see the first touch and the control, we are used to seeing it in training and we know it is fantastic finishing.

‘Two beautiful goals but not a surprise for the ones who see him do it every day in training.

Kane’s team-mate Eric Dier was hopeful it’s not too serious.

‘Obviously it’s always worrying when you see him limping,’ Dier told Sky Sports.

‘He doesn’t fall over easily, he takes a lot of knocks and gets on with it. It’s early days to say what it is and how bad it is. He’s a tough boy so he’ll do what he can to be ready.’
