Michael Owen has cast his eye over the Premier League fixtures this weekend as the end of the season draws closer.

Manchester United find themselves in second place in the table with seven games left to play and will be in a buoyant mood after big wins against Tottenham and Granada.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side came back from a goal down to beat Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium 3-1 last weekend before securing their place in the Europa League semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Granada to see them through with a 4-0 win on aggregate.

On Sunday, United take on 16th-placed Burnley at Old Trafford, and former Red Devils and Liverpool striker Owen can only see one winner.

‘Despite going a goal down, Manchester United produced another memorable victory on the road last weekend, defeating Spurs 2-0,’ Owen told BetVictor.

‘It was a typical United performance, and although I still think there is room for improvement at Old Trafford, the visit of Burnley should present itself as another opportunity to gain maximum points.

‘The Clarets simply aren’t scoring enough goals and if it wasn’t for the poor form of those in and around them, their concerns of falling out the Premier League would be a real possibility.

‘As I mentioned, United have been much better on the road, but on this occasion, I think they’ll come away with all three points.’

Arsenal go into their clash against Fulham at the Emirates off the back of confidence-boosting wins over Sheffield United and Slavia Prague.

The Gunners put three goals past the Blades and also booked their spot in the Europa League last four as they beat Slavia Prague 4-0 away from home to win the quarter-final tie 5-1 on aggregate.

Fulham, meanwhile, are six points off safety in 18th place, and Owen expects Mikel Arteta’s side to record a 2-0 victory on Sunday.

‘After making such a fight of it since the turn of the year, it’s looking more and more likely that Fulham will be playing Championship football next season,’ he added.

‘The Cottagers’ have lost their last four Premier League matches and they take on an Arsenal side that despite their frailties, still have the quality to brush aside teams at the bottom end of the table.

‘With that in mind, I predict another afternoon to forget for the visitors. It’s 2-0 to the Gunners for me.’

Michael Owen’s Premier League predictions

Everton 2-1 Spurs
Newcastle 1-1 West Ham
Wolves 1-0 Sheffield United
Arsenal 2-0 Fulham
Man Utd 2-0 Burnley
Leeds 1-2 Liverpool

Leeds went toe-to-toe with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season in a thrilling match at Anfield which Jurgen Klopp’s side edged 4-3.

This weekend, Marcelo Bielsa’s side welcome the Reds to Elland Road having beaten league leaders Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad.

Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League in midweek at the hands of Real Madrid, and Owen is backing the Reds to bounce back by beating Leeds 2-1 in a tight encounter on Monday night.

‘Matchday one seems long ago now, however, it sure did set the tone for Leeds’ season when they went down fighting in a 4-3 win for Liverpool,’ Owen continued.

‘Fresh from victory at the Etihad, belief will be sky-high within the Elland Road ranks. One positive for them is that Liverpool have played midweek in Europe, as that definitely worked in their favour in their victory at City.

‘That said, there has been a bit of an improvement in Liverpool’s recent performances, especially on the road domestically.

‘With that in mind, I’m siding with the Reds’ to carve out a narrow victory.’
