Indonesia volcano ERUPTION: Dire satellite photos show why Bali erupted after 50 years

Now, just over a year after the Indonesian volcano erupted, a study of satellite images snapped in 2017 claims to have found a link between the period of seismicity and the Mount Agung eruption.

A team of researchers led by the University of Bristol analysed satellite photos of Bali, provided by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The photos, snapped by the ESA’s Sentinel-1 satellite, charted ground deformation around the fiery Indonesian mountain.

The scientists hypothesised the two months of earthquakes contributed to the movement of magma into Agung, deep below the surface of Bali.
