More than 2,000 UK homes left without power after blackout hits during freezing weather

UK Power Networks stated on Twitter: “We’ve assigned engineers to attend the area ASAP to the underground cable fault which is affecting 2,684 properties. We’re just waiting for a timescale at the moment.”

These power cuts could leave some worried about coping with the cold weather. “Extra assistance” is available according to UK Power Networks by calling them on 0800 31 63 105 or 105.

Smaller incidents were also reported further south, with one postcode in Hartfield, near Royal Tunbridge Wells, being left with no power, affecting three customers. 

Meanwhile, a large 28-postcode-wide area in the south of the UK, including parts of Surrey, East and West Sussex, and Kent, was hit by a power cut, although according to the UK Power Networks, only three customers were affected.
