When is Soccer Aid 2023 and how to get tickets for this year’s game?
Soccer Aid returns this year with the popular football charity match looking to raise even more money for UNICEF.
Since it began in 2006, Soccer Aid has raised over £75m for UNICEF – including £15m for last year’s game at the London Stadium.
As ever, the event will see England take on the World XI FC, with a whole host of former professional footballers and celebrities lining up for the respective sides.
Here is everything you need to know about Soccer Aid 2023, including how to get tickets for this year’s showpiece.
When is Soccer Aid 2023?
This year’s Soccer Aid game will take place on Sunday, June 11 at 7.30pm.
The game will be broadcast on ITV and STV, with a live stream available on ITVX.
Where is the match being held?
Old Trafford will be the venue for Soccer Aid 2023, with a capacity crowd expected at the legendary stadium.
This is the first time since 2020 that Old Trafford will host the game when it was played behind closed doors due to the pandemic.
How to get tickets for Soccer Aid 2023
Tickets are on sale now from the Soccer Aid website.
Prices start from £10 for children and from £20 for adults.
Who is playing at Soccer Aid 2023?
England legend and Euro 2022 winner Jill Scott will become the first female to captain the England team in the history of Soccer Aid.
Scott, who also won I’m a Celebrity last year, said: ‘The Euros, The Jungle and now Soccer Aid for UNICEF – it’s the holy trinity! I’ve won two of them, so just need Soccer Aid now to complete ‘The Treble’!
‘I think of all three, this might be the one I’m most nervous about, though – just look at the names involved! Buy a ticket, support this amazing cause and cheer us on!’
Scott will be joined on the team by former England internationals Jack Wilshere, Gary Cahill and Karen Carney, who will be co-managed by Chelsea boss Emma Hayes and actress Vicky McClure.
The team also includes former footballers Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Jermain Defoe and Eni Aluko.
As for the celebrities, Joel Corry, Bugzy Malone, Sir Mo Farah, Alex Brooker and Paddy McGuinness are amongst those joining up with the pros.
Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt returns again to captain the World XI and the Jamaican will be joined by the likes of Lee Mack, Steven Bartlett and Kem Cetinay, while former Tottenham striker Robbie Kean will be a coach.
Who won last year?
The World XI emerged victorious in last year’s match to win the trophy for the fourth consecutive year.
The game finished 2-2, with Mark Wright and Tom Grennan getting on the scoresheet for England, and Noah Beck and Cetinay the goalscorers for the World XI.
In the shootout, Grennan and Russell Howard missed their penalties for England whilst the World XI scored all four of their attempts to lift the trophy once again.
