Harry Kane has moved past Wayne Rooney to become the top goalscorer in England’s history following his first-half penalty in the Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.
The goal came just over three months after Kane missed a penalty against France to send England crashing out at the quarter-final stage of the World Cup in Qatar.
The 29 year-old has scored goals for the national team at an alarming rate since first pulling on the shirt eight years ago.
But exactly how many goals has Kane scored for England and how does he compare to the other top goalscorers in the team’s history?

How many England goals has Harry Kane scored?
Kane has scored 54 goals in 80 appearances for England.
His very first goal for England came just minutes into his debut against Lithuania in March 2015 as a second half substitute.
Kane only scored two goals at the World Cup last year as England were beaten by France 2-1.
However, his first World Cup tournament in Russia back in 2018 was far more fruitful, with Kane scoring six goals as England reached the semi-finals to earn himself the golden boot.
Kane became just the second English player in history to win the iconic individual award, following on from Gary Lineker at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
The striker’s first major tournament in a Three Lions shirt was Euro 2016, but his four appearances in France failed to yield a goal.
Kane’s tally includes five hat-tricks, with only Jimmy Greaves having scored more for the Three Lions with six to his name.
His first goals at the European Championships arrived in 2021, with Kane’s four goals seeing England through to the final of Euro 2020.
San Marino are the team to have shipped the most goals against Kane with five, whilst the Spurs man has found the back of the net four times against Germany, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Albania.
Kane became England captain in 2018, taking over from Rooney just before the World Cup.
