Jose Mourinho tells Real Madrid to sign former Man Utd star in £69m transfer
Jose Mourinho is hoping to reunite with former Manchester United star Scott McTominay at Real Madrid, according to reports.
The Special One gave McTominay his senior debut in 2017 and frequently praised the Scotland World Cup star who swapped Old Trafford for Napoli in 2024.
The 29-year-old has hit heights never thought imaginable in Italy, winning the Serie A title and Player of the Year award in his first season, and being nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
With 27 goals and 10 assists in 80 appearances, many concede it was a major mistake to sell the box-to-box midfielder who was never full appreciated in Manchester.

Wayne Rooney recently urged United to re-sign McTominay but it appears he could be on his way to Madrid, with reports in Italy claiming Real are interested in the player.
Tuttomercatoweb say Napoli have no intention of selling and have slapped an €80million (£69m) price tag on their star man.
McTominay’s stance on a transfer is not clear, though it is said negotiations to extend his contract beyond 2028 have stalled.
United sold McTominay in a deal worth up to £30m and would be set to make more money if he joined Los Blancos thanks to a 10 per cent sell-on clause in his contract.
Napoli chiefs will hold talks with the midfielder once he returns from the World Cup. McTominay has come under fire at the tournament, accused of going missing on the pitch as Scotland narrowly beat Haiti before losing to Morocco and Brazil.
Are Scotland out of the World Cup?
No, Scotland can still reach the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup but their chances of doing so are very, very, very slim.

The Tartan Army finished third in Group C with three points and a goal difference of -3. If four other third-placed teams finish with a worse record than that, Scotland stay in the competition.
Straight after the dismal 3-0 defeat to Brazil, Opta gave Scotland a 42 per cent chance of reaching the knockouts. Unfortunately, few results from the other groups have gone in their favour.
As it stands, with six group games to be played on Saturday night and Sunday morning, those odds have plummeted to 0.07 per cent.
Not all hope is lost for McTominay’s team however, as they will still qualify for the knockouts if all of the following scenarios happen:
- Ghana beat Croatia by at least three goals
- DR Congo draw with Uzbekistan OR Uzbekistan win by no more than three goals
- Austria beat Algeria by two or more goals OR Algeria win by at least four goals
