“Many youngest siblings describe feeling pressure to live up to their older siblings’ accomplishments or, conversely, feeling responsible for ‘doing better’ after an older sibling’s disappointments,” Tahim said. “While these comparisons are often unconscious and rarely come from a place of harm, they can still have a lasting emotional impact. Over time, this can contribute to perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-doubt or a persistent feeling that they have something to prove.”
