Eva Carneiro hits back at Jose Mourinho and John Terry over Netflix documentary
Former Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro has hit back at Jose Mourinho and John Terry over their comments on the ‘Mourinho’ Netflix documentary.
Carneiro and head physio Jon Fearn angered Mourinho after they raced onto the pitch in injury time to treat Eden Hazard during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at home to Swansea City in August 2015.
An irate Mourinho was furious as their decision to help Hazard meant that Chelsea were down to nine men after Thibaut Courtois had been sent off earlier in the second half.
After the incident, Mourinho said that his medical staff were ‘impulsive and naive’ and did not ‘understand the game’.

Carneiro left her position at Chelsea the following month and claimed constructive dismissal against the club, which was settled at an employment tribunal.

The story was covered on Netflix’s newly released documentary series called ‘Mourinho’, and giving his opinion on the incident, Mourinho said: ‘I’m not a doctor, but my eyes know when a player is injured, and they know when a player is not injured.
‘I knew that he was not injured, but the doctors went to the pitch, and in that moment we were left with nine players.
‘For me, a lady doctor is the same as a man’s doctor. So, as always, I use my vocabulary when I’m not happy.
‘There are words in moments where the tension is very, very high. Normally, people with football culture, with football DNA, with football background, they go over it in one second. In that case, it was different.’
Former Chelsea captain Terry also claimed that there was an unwritten rule among the players that they would not be treated by the club’s physios during the game unless it was a serious injury.
‘Medically, he would say unless it’s really, really bad, then they’re not coming on,’ Terry said.
‘That was the understanding for us as players, the medical staff, everyone bought into that.
‘It was a big moment obviously and he took a lot of backlash for that. There was a lot of heat on the football club.’
Carneiro has now taken aim at Mourinho and Terry over their comments and claims Hazard personally required medical attention.
In a post on X, Carneiro wrote: ’11 years on and here we are reliving the worst. Hope they made some money.
‘We are bound by a medico-legal code of conduct.
