Everton will place a ‘prohibitive valuation’ on Iliman Ndiaye after Manchester United expressed in a summer deal.

United are set to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad in a number of positions after appointing the ex-England midfielder on a permanent contract.

Midfield remains the priority for Carrick following Casemiro’s exit from Old Trafford and the ongoing uncertainty around Manuel Ugarte’s future.

Manchester United are set to make Brazilian midfielder Ederson their first signing of the Carrick era after agreeing a £35m deal with Atalanta.

But the Red Devils are expected to bring at least one more central midfielder to the club amid interest in Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba.

United are also keen to sign a new left-back to support Luke Shaw and another striker to provide competition for talented but inexperienced Benjamin Sesko.

It was reported on Thursday that United may look to bring a new left-winger to Old Trafford and have expressed interest in Ndiaye.

Signed from Marseille in 2024 for £15m, Ndiaye has made 71 appearances for Everton over the past two seasons, scoring 15 Premier League goals.

While Everton may have to sell some players this summer, Toffees boss David Moyes is desperate to keel hold of Ndiaye, who has rejected multiple contract offers over the past 12 months.

The 26-year-old is contracted to Everton for another three years but the club are keen to tie him down to an even longer and more lucrative deal.

According to The Athletic, the point of contention is the presence of an exit clause that could be triggered as early as this summer.

It is claimed Everton will place a ‘prohibitive valuation’ on the winger, who is set to feature for Senegal at the World Cup, and would want around 80m euros (£69m).

They base that figure on Anthony Gordon’s recent £70m move to Barcelona from Everton’s Premier League rivals Newcastle United and hope it will deter possible suitors.

In April, Moyes branded Ndiaye the ‘last person I would consider selling’ when asked about speculation he could leave Everton.

‘He is the last person I would consider selling,’ Moyes said. ‘There are others as well [that I wouldn’t want to sell], but my point is I have no interest in hearing the talk if there is talk out there.

‘But it is getting too hard to build teams and also supporters are looking for a quick return, which managers are not getting. So why would we be giving up their better players?’

Meanwhile, new permanent Manchester United boss Carrick described the upcoming transfer window as ‘the most important one of all time’ as he looks to bolster a team that finished third in the Premier League last season.

‘I think the beauty of the next transfer window for everybody, it’s always the biggest thing in the world, and the most important transfer window of all time for every club I think,’ he said.

‘That’s just the nature of how it’s been created, to be honest. And I think, again, as a football club, you want to keep moving forward. We certainly do as a football club, want to keep moving forward.

‘So, I think it’s acknowledged we’re at this stage and the dynamics and the balance of the direction we’re at, where we’ve ended up getting to and finishing in the league.

‘And there’s obviously work to do. I know it’s quite obvious, there’s certain players leaving, that there’s a bit of work to do.

‘It’s not any more important, this one, than the last one, or it’s what’s ahead of us as a football club to try and make the most of.’

Manchester United have already offloaded one player ahead of Ederson’s arrival, with Rasmus Hojlund completing a permanent move to Napoli.
