Why is Manuel Neuer not playing for Bayern Munich against PSG in the Champions League?
Paris Saint-Germain are hosting Bayern Munich in tonight’s Champions League Round of 16 clash at the Parc des Princes.
The mammoth showdown will see the French champions face the German champions in a repeat of the 2020 final, which was won by Bayern Munich.
Facing PSG with their incredible forward players such as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe will be a huge task in itself for Bayern – let alone when first choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is missing.
And with the eyes of the football world on the game, many fans have been asking why the veteran goalkeeper is not playing.

Why is Manuel Neuer not playing for Bayern Munich tonight?
Neuer is absent from tonight’s game due to injury.
The 36 year-old broke his right leg in a skiing accident while on a family holiday in December.
The goalkeeper had just returned from the World Cup with Germany in Qatar and was recharging his batteries ahead of the resumption of the Bundesliga.
Neuer underwent successful surgery, but he will be out of action for the rest of the season.
Bayern are hopeful that their legendary figure will return for the club’s pre-season preparations in July, ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Speaking after the surgery, Neuer said on Instagram: ‘What can I say, the end of the year could have definitely gone better… While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture.
‘Yesterday’s surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me.’
According to Bild, Neuer’s recovery from injury is progressing well and he is able to put a small amount of weight on his right leg.

Bayern signed Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach in the January transfer window to replace the stricken Neuer.
The 34 year-old arrived in Bavaria for around £7m on a deal until 2025 and is now the undisputed number one in Neuer’s absence.
Neuer joined Bayern Munich from Schalke in 2011 and has won ten Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.
