Launched in January 2006, New Horizons began a 4 billion mile journey to study the dwarf planet Pluto and its five moons.
John Spencer, deputy project scientist for New Horizons, told reporters: ”Anything’s possible out there in this very unknown region.”
New Horizons principal investigator, Alan Stern, said: “We are straining the capabilities of this spacecraft, and by tomorrow we’ll know how we did.”
“There are no second chances for New Horizons.”
