While the north celebrates the astronomical start of Spring today, the south will not see the Vernal Equinox until September 23 this year.

The effectively means today marks the start of the Autumn season for all nations below the equator.

At the equinox, the Earth’s terminator, which is the line dividing night and day on Earth, connects directly between the north and south pole.

As the Earth flies around the Sun at breakneck speeds, the terminator will gradually tilt in either direction resulting in longer or shorter days.
