Philippe Coutinho has been put off a possible transfer to Manchester United following Barcelona’s win at Old Trafford in the Champions League, according to reports in Spain.

Last month, reports claimed that United have held initial talks with intermediaries over a possible deal for the Brazil international this summer.

Coutinho has struggled to secure a regular role at Barca after joining in a £142 million deal from Liverpool 15 months ago.

United are understood to be keeping tabs on Coutinho’s situation at Camp Nou, while Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the midfielder.

But according to Sport, Coutinho does not want to betray his former supporters at Liverpool and the boos he received from United fans during Barcelona’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford last week has convinced him to look beyond a move to United.

Coutinho is set to face United once again this week as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side travel to Camp Nou for their return leg.

United are chasing a 1-0 defeat from the first leg following Luke Shaw’s own goal in the 12th minute.

But Barca boss Ernesto Valverde has warned his players about the threat United possess.

‘They have great spirit and players,’ he said.

‘If you give them space they can play well. They run well.

‘We respect them for what they’ve done, what they are. We want to show what we can do tomorrow.’
