Bermuda Triangle mystery leaves scientists baffled as giant structure found underneath

The Bermuda Triangle has been the focus of an urban legend for decades, with many believing that countless ships, planes, and people have mysteriously disappeared beneath the waves. Now, scientists have uncovered another mystery.

A team of researchers have discovered a structure on the ocean floor of the Bermuda Triangle (an area in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly bounded by Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico) that is “unlike anything else on Earth”. Bermuda is located on a raised ocean crust, which is typically associated with volcanoes. But, there hasn’t been an eruption on the island for over 31 million years, so the volcanic swelling should be gone by now. The reason for the raised crust was unknown until recently, when researchers found a 12.4-mile layer of rock beneath the island, formed by an eruption that injected molten rock into the Earth’s crust, where it froze and lifted the ocean floor 500 metres out of the water. This level of thickness has never been seen in any other similar layer worldwide.
